"During walkout, students find various reasons to stay put", September 18, 2016.
On Sept. 18, students walked out of school during first period protesting PPS’s decision to postpone the vote to pass a bond measure that would rebuild our school. Although I wanted to cover the protest, take pictures and interviews, I stayed at school asking students why they chose not to march. |
"Former teacher loses teaching license due to sexual misconduct", September 20, 2018.
Using public records and records requests, I researched why a former teacher at my school was fired for sexual misconduct. In an attempt to contact the teacher for a comment, this was my first time receiving threats from sources, however this did not stop me from continuing my work. |
"Corvallis likely won't have men's shelter this winter" (for The Oregonian/OregonLive)
During my week intensive at the Oregon High School Institute, I reported on a men’s shelter that closed. My hands covered in ink after a 90 minute interview with the owners of the shelter, where I took notes during a vulnerable, sensitive time. Interviewing men who suffered the loss of this shelter shaped how I approach sensitive stories. |

"Digital learning: the new snow day?", February 23, 2017.
This story was different than other stories I have reported on, as I interviewed students and principals from other schools, not just my own. My skills communicating with others and reaching out to sources I don’t know as well strengthened with this article. |
"Chamber Singers support advanced voices", November 30, 2018.
As Editor-in-Chief, I’ve worked to represent more student life and culture, including the arts. In this story I highlight a different part of the school choir, not many students know about, spending time talking to students in the choir, and the head of the choir department. |
Investigative Reporting
"Handicapped spots open to visitors without permit, not students with them", May 4, 2018.
After a friend told me their experience of having difficulty parking at school, despite having a handicap pass, I investigated why there are cars without handicap passes parked in those designated spots. With multiple interviews, extensive research on handicap parking, city and schools codes for parking, Lincoln’s actual policies on handicap parking came as a shock to myself and the student body. |
"Abused and Afraid," April 2, 2018.
A story that spanned six months, dozens of emails requesting records from investigators and our school district, contacting hundreds of alumni and conducting sensitive interviews with current teachers, exposed a dark past of sexual misconduct by teachers in my school. |

"A girl, not a chair," April 25, 2016.
Although I initially planned to report on wheelchair accessibility and lack thereof at my school, after a 20 minute interview turned into an hour long one, I realized I had a new story: Yatta Barnett. This story took dozens of interviews, including contacting an orphanage in Africa that allegedly abused this Lincoln student due to her disability. |
